Battery charging, testing, and use instructions.
- Selecting a battery:
- Columbia's battery well is designed for the smaller group 24 batteries.
- For Charlotte and Caravel, use the larger group 27 batteries.
- If the battery is connected to the charger and only the green light is on, then it is ready to go.
- If the battery is not connected to the charger, connect it to the charger. If only the green light is on it is ready to go. (It should have a note saying it needs charging if it isn't ready to go.)
- Always connect another battery when you take one off the charger.
- Don't take more than two batteries.
- Using a battery.
- Don't let it touch your clothes. (You won't see the damage until you wash)
- Keep it upright.
- Keep the wing nuts with the battery.
- Don't discharge it more than about 50% (~12.2V). (When the lights get dim it is really too late.)
- Charge it as soon as possible.
- When returning a battery to the KB locker put it on the charger, even if you only used it a little bit. If all the batteries are still charging, leave a note on it saying that it is 'Discharged' (not dead).
- If there are fully charged batteries on the charger, and other marked as discharged, swap them.
- Follow these basic instructions and it will help our batteries last longer.
